The Four Factors of our Training
Aspiration - the hero’s journey and aiming higher
The hero’s journey is a common structure in stories from around the world and throughout time. In applying it to our own lives, we can take the lessons of every hero who came before us. We have agency in our own stories, we need a team for support along the path, we each play a role in the stories of those around us.
Inspiration - collecting heroes and stories
By reading the stories of heroic action, we ask ourselves, “what would I do?” With a collection of situations and actions, we are better prepared to face similar situations and to take action ourselves.
Education - why we sometimes act heroically and sometimes don’t
There are many social and psychological reasons for not acting heroically. More often than not, these barriers to action are invisible to us in the moment. By learning about them, we can take pause in situ and choose to ignore them.
Preparation - practices to make you more likely to act heroically when the time comes
To further reduce the impact of the barriers to action, we can practice, plan, and prepare. Every bit of work we do now makes it more likely that we’ll act heroically when someone needs it.
